Largo de Santo Cristo
Largo de Santo Cristo is a lovely little square located in Angra do Heroismo, the capital of the island of Terceira in the Azores. Beautiful examples of colonial architecture can be seen there, magnified by the presence of lush vegetation. This watercolour is structured by the tree which frames the work on the right and the upper edges. The lower edge is marked by the pavement of a very dark colour. The left edge of the painting provides an opening, a breath of fresh air in a composition that can seem stifling. The viewer's gaze is naturally drawn to the center of the painting where the small chapel of Santo Cristo sits.
